How Our Windows and Doors Help Protect the Environment
On April 22, 1970, the first Earth Day sparked nationwide concern for the environment and conservation.
At Pella, we’ve been helping take care of the planet since our company started in 1925. We’ve continued to build on a culture of environmental oversight since then. Not only because it’s good for business, but because it’s the right thing to do.
Pella® windows and doors are made in a way that respects and preserves our environment. They’re designed to last. And many styles use recycled materials.
More than 95 percent of our aluminum sash cladding comes from recycled aluminum. One of the ways we incorporate this cladding is on Pella Architect Series® and Pella Lifestyle Series wood windows. Our EnduraClad® protective finish resists fading and keeps up the exterior of these windows for years.
About 14 percent of the glass we use is from a recycled source. Even 99 percent of the sawdust we produce during our manufacturing process is recycled.
Pella has been awarded a Chain-of-Custody Certification from the Forest Stewardship Council. This means we offer windows and doors built from wood certified to have been harvested from well-managed forests.*
Some of our other procedures at Pella include:
- Making the best of recycling opportunities
- Minimizing waste and pollution
- Cutting back on energy consumption
Our commitment to conservation hasn’t been overlooked. We’ve been recognized with the National Arbor Day Foundation’s renowned Promise to the Earth Award for our endeavors to plant trees and promote responsible forestry.
The EPA has also recognized Pella for our sensible manufacturing procedures and reducing the release of hazardous chemicals.
Sustainability has been on our mind for nearly a century. In 1950—two decades before the first Earth Day—one of our founders voiced his vision for Pella’s commitment to a healthy environment.
“We recognize our responsibilities as stewards of our natural resources and the environment and will avoid wasteful or harmful disregard of the environmental effects of our operations,” co-founder Pete Kuyper said.
Today, Pella products also help preserve the environment in households across North America.
Save More with Our ENERGY STAR® Windows and Doors
We’ve been an ENERGY STAR® partner since 1999. This voluntary U.S. Environmental Protection Agency program helps businesses and homeowners save on energy costs while protecting the environment.
As a partner, we’re dedicated to building windows and doors with outstanding energy efficiency. Our select design, top-grade construction and innovative glass options help homes use less energy—saving you more money on monthly heating and cooling bills.
Installing Pella® ENERGY STAR-certified windows can shrink your heating and cooling costs. The average homeowner can save $101 to $583 each year by replacing single-pane windows.** And 1,006 to 6,205 pounds of carbon dioxide, which is comparable to 51 to 317 gallons of gasoline.
Our efficient dual- or triple-pane windows can keep your home cozier in the winter and cooler in the summer. They also help end drafts, limit condensation and minimize outdoor noise pollution.
Our doors also have energy-saving innovations. Select Pella sliding patio doors include a unique design that puts the sliding panel on the exterior. The faster the wind blows, the more tightly the door seals.
Plus, using our exclusive between-the-glass blinds and shades in your windows or sliding patio doors can supply an added layer of insulation.
We Support LEED Certification
As a member of the U.S. Green Building Council, Pella encourages LEED certification for businesses and homes.
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design is an international green building rating system. The system helps create healthy, highly efficient and cost-saving buildings. These buildings save energy, water and other resources—plus they make less waste.
Pella provides products that can supply more than:
- 20 of 136 possible points in LEED for Homes
- 41 of 110 possible points in LEED for New Construction and Major Renovation for Commercial Buildings
Pella can help you meet your green energy targets, whether they’re big or small.
